The quick answer

Use AREX when the hotel fits the railway route and you can manage the final transfer. Consider a bus when its actual stop is close to the hotel. Consider a taxi for a difficult final walk, bulky luggage or a group sharing the fare. At night, check the exact departure from your terminal before choosing.

Quick comparison

Option Most useful for What to verify
AREX Express Seoul Station destination Reserved departure and onward hotel transfer
AREX All-Stop Hongik University or other served stations Station, last train and luggage-friendly exit
Airport bus A stop near the hotel Route, terminal bay, fare and final stop-to-door walk
Taxi Direct drop-off or shared group journey Vehicle capacity, meter/quote, tolls and night surcharge

AREX: measure the journey beyond Seoul Station

The official tourism guide gives Express times to Seoul Station of approximately 43 minutes from T1 and 51 minutes from T2. It lists All-Stop times of approximately 59 and 66 minutes respectively. These are railway journey times, not arrival-to-hotel promises.

The Express does not stop at Hongik University. If you are staying in Hongdae, compare the All-Stop service before automatically buying an Express ticket. For Myeongdong, add the onward subway or taxi and walk. For Gangnam, compare the entire route with a bus near your hotel. Our hotel-area comparison helps you make the destination decision first.

Use the official rail timetable and ticket screen for your exact day. We are not publishing a single last-train time or unverified current fare because terminal, service and destination matter. A convenient daytime route may be unavailable after a delayed flight.

Airport bus: the useful unit is your actual stop

Find the hotel’s street address, then search the airport’s bus directory for the nearest appropriate stop. Check both directions: the airport-bound boarding point can be different from the arrival drop-off. Save the route number and your terminal’s boarding bay.

Do not book a bus solely because it says “Myeongdong” or “Gangnam.” Measure the walk with luggage and check whether the hotel entrance is across a major road or up a hill. Confirm the ticketing method with the operator; use the published timetable rather than a generic journey estimate.

Night buses: two verified fare examples

Incheon Airport currently lists N6000 to Gangnam Express Bus Terminal at ₩17,000 per adult and N6701 toward Dongdaemun Design Plaza at ₩18,000. These are specific night routes, not a single fare for all airport buses. Gangnam Express Bus Terminal is not Gangnam Station.

Check the terminal-specific departure list and whether the route actually serves your hotel area. A night bus that gets you to a city hub may still require a taxi for the final leg. If your flight lands late, compare the complete plan with staying near Incheon for the first night.

Taxi: base fare is not the airport-to-hotel price

The airport lists Seoul standard-taxi base fare at ₩4,800, with Seoul night surcharges of 20% at 22:00–23:00 and 02:00–04:00, and 40% at 23:00–02:00. The base fare is only the meter’s starting amount. It is not a quote to Seoul.

Use the designated taxi stand. Show the hotel’s Korean address and ask about the fare method, tolls, vehicle capacity and luggage before departure. A group should compare the total vehicle price with all passengers’ bus tickets plus any final transfer. For example, an actual quoted total of ₩90,000 split three ways is ₩30,000 each; this is a calculation, not a current airport taxi quote.

Before you go

Where to go if the taxi is your fallback

The airport’s current table lists Seoul standard-taxi pickup at T1 stands 5C, 6C and 6D, and T2 stand 7C. Follow the terminal’s current signage and the destination queue. A pre-booked pickup can use a different point; do not apply these stands to every booked vehicle.

Save this with the Korean hotel address and passenger-plus-bag count. Ask for the applicable meter or total, and whether tolls are additional. For a group, the usable vehicle and whole-group total matter more than a standard-taxi starting fare.

Continue planning

Prepare your eSIM, SIM or pocket Wi-Fi so you can check the last leg after arrival. Then choose a Seoul shopping-trip base. Keep the Travel Essentials hub with your flight notes.
