The quick answer

Compare the final payable price for the bags you will actually bring, then check the arrival airport, connection arrangement and change rules. A lower headline fare is useful only if the complete journey still fits your itinerary. For a shopping trip, compare the return baggage allowance separately.

Quick comparison

Check What to compare Why it changes the decision
Price Fare + bags + required extras Search results may show different inclusions
Baggage Pieces, weight and dimensions in both directions Shopping changes the return load
Connection Through ticket, separate tickets, airport change Re-checking can add time and cost
Arrival ICN or PUS, terminal and local arrival time Your first hotel may become harder to reach
Flexibility Change fee, fare difference, refund and no-show terms A flexible label is not a promise of a full refund

Make two comparable baskets

Write down the same dates, travellers, currency and bag requirements for two or three options. Include only extras you need: checked bags, a seat preference, or meals if they matter to you. Do this for both the outward and return journeys.

Illustrative arithmetic, not a live fare: ticket A costs ₩600,000 plus ₩80,000 for each of two baggage charges, for ₩760,000 total. Ticket B costs ₩720,000 with the required baggage already included. B is ₩40,000 cheaper on those assumptions, even though its headline price is higher. Check whether an add-on is charged per leg or per journey before using this calculation.

A real baggage example: route and fare family matter

Korean Air currently lists one 23 kg checked bag for Economy on international routes excluding the Americas/Brazil. For Americas routes excluding Brazil, Saver has one 23 kg bag and other Economy fares have two. Its standard size limit is 158 cm across three dimensions, including handles and wheels. This is an airline example, not a Korea-wide allowance.

Read the baggage line on the exact offer and e-ticket. A codeshare may follow a partner’s rules. Do not assume two pieces can be replaced by one heavier suitcase. If beauty and fashion shopping are central to your trip, reserve some return capacity rather than arriving with an already-full bag.

Connection time is more than the number between flights

Ask the seller whether the itinerary is issued as a through ticket and what happens if the first flight is delayed. Ask where you must collect and re-check baggage. Korean Air’s transfer guide notes that separately issued tickets can limit through-check-in; the check-in desk should confirm the bag’s final destination.

An airport change is a different problem from a terminal change. ICN and GMP are different airports. PUS is Gimhae, the airport serving Busan. Use Incheon vs Gimhae to match the arrival to your first city, rather than accepting a cheaper route that sends you across Korea immediately.

There is no universal safe connection time for independent tickets. Your airline’s minimum connection time for an eligible itinerary does not guarantee a separate-ticket connection. If you must arrange your own onward travel, consider an overnight buffer and check the cancellation terms of that onward booking.

Read the conditions as a small decision tree

If the date changes, what is the change fee and will a fare difference apply? If you cancel before departure, what amount is refundable and who processes it? If you miss the flight, what no-show conditions apply? Save the actual fare rules shown at checkout; a search-result badge is too brief to answer these questions.

For a late arrival, include the first-night transfer and hotel plan in the comparison. Read late-night Incheon arrival before assuming a train will still be running when you leave baggage claim.

Before you book

Check the return flight against the shopping you plan

Make a return packing list before choosing the fare: clothes, fragile purchases, liquids and the empty suitcase weight. Incheon Airport’s international carry-on rule allows liquids only in containers of 100 ml or less inside one 1 L transparent zip bag per person. A half-full 150 ml bottle still has a container larger than that limit. Check your departure airport and connecting security rules too.

A shopping trip can need a checked bag even when the outbound journey does not. Price that actual return bag in the ticket comparison. Keep the e-ticket baggage line and any prepaid baggage receipt together; buying capacity is separate from whether an item is permitted.

Continue planning

After choosing the flight, compare AREX, airport bus and taxi, then choose a Seoul shopping-trip hotel area. Use Travel Essentials to keep the arrival decisions together.
